Since the tender age of 9 when a 'friend' followed Buffy in a dark alleyway i was hooked on Joss Whedon and subsequently David Boreanaz. I, like anyway with good taste, have been waiting oh so impatiently for the new show of his 'Dollhouse'. I was at first apprehensive because of the cast; i love and adore Eliza Dushku especially in Tru Calling which i thought was the perfect show for her, so i was ecstatic with that casting, but the Australian Dychin Lyman or however you spell it once starred in a little Aussie soapie called Neighbours and i hated her with a passion. Luckily she was barely in the premiere. Amy Acker was so awesome, her scarring is of interest and i liked her awkwardness, so different to Fred and illyria. While the premiere lacked his trademark wit it had plenty of other awesomeness going for it. Whedon's fingerprints were everywhere; the long reaching storyline of at least 5 years, the mystery of WHY Echo is Echo, how they get away with it. The wise older man being the mentor of the young girl; you can already see the relationship between the two growing in a Buffy/Giles vein. And did the geeky technician kind of remind anyone of the trio? He definitely reminded me of Andrew. How awesome would a Danny Strong cameo be though??? It had enough action as well as character establishment to keep me coming back. I think the reason the pilot was so for lack of a better word at present, normal was fear of what i have come to call fireflydom. Firefly's pilot had so many unanswered questions and things introduced at once- some of which are still unanswered- WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH SHEPHERD BOOK???- and the idiots at Fox screwed it over royally. I predict Dollhouse to hit it's stride around episode 5 and it's own language and whedonesqueness will grow. I like it, it's not like anything else out there, it has elements of The Pretender, another show which I adored. Plus with Dushku and Acker how could I turn away? Of course being in Australia i have to wait to watch the episodes over the net. Fingers crossed it wont take too long because i have been without my Whedon fix since Dr. Horrible, thank god he finally scratched it!
In other news, Uni starts back in 2 weeks which means i am in my usual 'why the hell do the books cost so damn much' pissy fit. If i have to pay over 100 bucks for a book it better be damn interesting and somehow norton's anthology of theory and criticism just doesn't sound like a real page turner. Speaking of, thanks Reenie for recommending the Sookie Stackhouse books, i'll give them a try! This w/e is the best friend's party and 2moro i will be going to pick up his present. Because i am awesome and also Legen- WAIT FOR IT- dary, i got him a Foosball table, just what every sport crazed, fitnenss obsessive, can't hack losing guy needs! Well that and a pink t shirt with a picture of me and Tess with the message 'Happy 21st love your two favourite people in the world xxx'
JOBWISE, i'm still loving working at TB, really is a dream job when i'm OCD about order. I was at my brother's house and his DVD collection is completely random, i hyperventilate at the thought. I have little half moons in my palms from clenching my fists just so i wouldn't go all Freddy VS Jason on him. Disorder makes me angry, and like the Hulk says you wouldn't like me when i'm angry. I get really slap happy, or if in heels, threatening with my shoes happy. Men cower in the face of a spike heel...
Well time for some more DVD viewage, i'm feeling....West Wing? or maybe Smallville, or early 90210 the pre KD years...
